!!Synthesia Scratch-MIDI Codes!! Okay so I recently shared my Synthesia Music Maker project, and with it is the option to share the music you created. The codes are not very encoded (lol) and very long, so I made a topic so you could share them without the (awful) 500 character limit.

Self-taught 2nd year pianist: Learning Music Theory

So I've been identified as a level 2/3 late beginner/early intermediate player. I know there's a lot more to learning piano than just memorizing songs and knowing which notes are what on sheet music. Speaking of sheet music, just so you know, I can read it, slowly. I have a pretty good idea of what notes are which in the scales I've learned. I don't have much experience with music theory other than knowing a scale or two (C major and now g major since I've started learning minuet in g major BWV Anh. 114). By that I mean I didn't really know the difference between an octave, an interval, and a scale until about an hour ago when I looked it up...

I was wondering if anyone had any tips for me to help me understand the structure of music, at least the basic stuff. Like the mixolydian mode and diatonic scale (now that I think about I don't really know the difference between a mode and a scale). I figure I should at least know the basic structure of music to help me get a better grasp of rhythm and timing and stuff. I'd say my rhythm/timing is okay as long as I have an idea of what the song I am playing will sound like.

I should probably list my repertoire:

Fur Elise (youtube tutorial)

Lost Boy by Ruth B. (synthesia tutorial composed by Zachary Marsh)

The first 16 measures of BWV Anh. 114 (Sheet music) (yay! I just finished that up today)

I started learning basic nursery rhymes and short excerpts from classical songs on Yousician about 2 years ago, when I was thirteen. I stopped practicing reading sheet music for several months because I found that YouTube tutorials were more fun. However, I've started practicing again and it's pretty easy. I think that speed is the main thing I need to work on. This year will be my third year with my keyboard. I should add that the keyboard I have now is very bad quality so I can't really do trills or play upper/lower mordants because the sound quality is tinny and screechy and staticky at times.

I have a goal to learn these songs this year:

Bennie and the Jets (Elton John)

Saturday In The Park (Chicago)

The Inner Light (this is a song from Star Trek: The Next Generation)

Linus and Lucy, that jazz song composed by Vince Guaraldi from The Peanuts (This is just being hopeful, and I will probably only go for this song if I get a quality weighted keyboard)

And maybe Colour My World (Chicago) & The Pina Colada Song (Rupert Holmes) (those just came to me today).

I'm including all this information just so that those who respond can have detailed context of the person they're advising. I look forward to reading your responses!
